solder

UK/ˈsɒl.də(ɹ)/US/ˈsɑd.ɚ/

Other forms: soldering, soldered, solders

To solder is to join wires with a melted alloy of low melting point. Solder the joint, a soldered connection, solder it on.

The l is silent in British English and sounded in American, which surprises everybody who meets it the other way. The parts themselves never melt, and flux is what lets the solder flow and stick.
