Solidarity is standing together with others in their struggle. Show solidarity, in solidarity with, an act of solidarity.
It means acting on somebody else's behalf when their fight is not directly yours, which is what distinguishes it from self-interest. It is the language of trade unions and protest, and Solidarity, capitalised, was the Polish union that broke the communist government in the 1980s. Note solidary, the rare adjective; and that the Latin behind it means the whole sum.
