stash

UK/stæʃ/US/stæʃ/
verbB22 meaningsCommon in everyday speech and writing · #3,707 of 15,258leans spoken

Other forms: stashed, stashes, stashing

To stash something is to hide it away for later. Stash the money, stashed under the bed, stash it somewhere safe.

It is informal and suggests both concealment and keeping. As a noun, a stash is the hidden supply: a stash of chocolate, a secret stash. It is often used of things people would rather not explain — a stash of cash, a drugs stash — which gives the word a slightly furtive tone even when nothing wrong is going on. Note stash away, which is the commonest form of the verb.
