Striped means marked with parallel bands. A striped shirt, striped awning, boldly striped.
The stripes can be woven, printed or natural — a striped fabric, a striped cat. Vertical stripes are traditionally said to make a wearer look taller and horizontal ones wider, which is repeated everywhere and is not well supported. Note stripy, the informal form; and that a striped animal's pattern is usually camouflage rather than display.
