A tonne is a thousand kilograms. Ten tonnes, per tonne, a tonne of steel.
It is the metric one, and the confusion is with the ton: the British long ton is 1,016 kilograms and the American short ton 907, so all three are different. In writing, metric tonne is often spelled out to avoid it.
