Other forms: tourists
A tourist is a person visiting a place on holiday, camera in hand. A coach of tourists, tourist information, a tourist trap.
Nobody calls themselves one — travellers, visitors and guests are all the same people avoiding the word, which carries a suggestion of seeing without understanding. Tourism is among the largest industries in the world and among the most damaging to the places it depends on. Note tour, from the Latin for a turn.
