Ventilation is the flow of fresh air through a room or building. Good ventilation, ventilation shafts, improve the ventilation.
It matters more than most people think: carbon dioxide builds up in a closed room and measurably dulls thinking, and it is also how airborne infection spreads. Opening a window for a few minutes changes the air faster than leaving it ajar all day. The Latin ventus means wind.
