virile

UK/ˈvɪɹ.əl/US/ˈvɪɹ.əl/
adjectiveC1Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #9,813 of 15,258leans spoken

Virile means strong and full of manly vigour. A virile young man, virile prose, look virile.

It is dated and often faintly ridiculous now, since the idea of manliness it carries is a nineteenth-century one. It is also used medically of fertility in men. The Latin vir means a man, and virtue comes from the same word.
