willingness

UK/ˈwɪlɪŋnəs/US/ˈwɪlɪŋnəs/
nounB2Common in everyday speech and writing · #7,394 of 15,258leans written

Willingness is being glad to do what is asked. Not just agreeing — agreeing without being pushed.

The word takes to and a verb: a willingness to help, a willingness to listen, a willingness to compromise. It is one of the qualities most often praised in references and negotiations, because it describes attitude rather than ability. The adjective willing works alone and in the phrase willing to, and the opposite is unwillingness. English has a nice old phrase for it in willing hands, meaning people glad to pitch in.
