Other forms: consignments
A consignment is a batch of goods sent to one destination. A consignment of grain, the consignment arrived, seize the consignment.
It is the unit shipping is organised around — one sender, one receiver, one set of documents — and customs treats it that way. Selling on consignment means the shop pays only for what sells and returns the rest, which is common in books and in art. Note consign, from the Latin for sealing.
