domesticated

adjectiveB2+Occasional — familiar, but not everyday · #10,275 of 15,258leans written

Domesticated means bred over generations to live with people. A domesticated animal, domesticated crops, fully domesticated.

It is genetic rather than personal: a tamed animal is one individual made docile, and a domesticated one belongs to a changed population. Very few species have been domesticated at all, which is why the same handful appear on every farm on earth.
