indiscriminate

UK/ɪn.dɪsˈkɹɪm.ɪn.ət/
adjectiveC1Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #13,069 of 15,258leans written

Indiscriminate means made without care about who or what is affected. Indiscriminate bombing, indiscriminate cutting, indiscriminate praise.

In the law of war it is a technical charge: an indiscriminate attack does not distinguish between fighters and civilians, and that is a war crime regardless of intent. In ordinary use it means undiscriminating — indiscriminate praise is worth nothing. Note discriminate, which here means to tell apart.
