information

UK/ˌɪn.fəˈmeɪ.ʃn̩/US/ˌɪn.fɚˈmeɪ.ʃn̩/
nounA1Very common — you will meet it every day · #454 of 15,258neutral

Information is facts told or found out about something. Useful information, ask for information, an information sheet.

It is uncountable, so a piece of information rather than an information, which is one of the commonest errors for learners. In computing it is measured in bits, and the whole theory of it starts from how much a message reduces uncertainty.
