quilted

adjectiveB2+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #14,251 of 15,258neutral

Quilted means padded with a layer of stuffing held by stitching. A quilted jacket, quilted lining, quilted and warm.

The stitching is structural rather than decorative, since without it the padding shifts to the bottom. Quilted armour was real and effective, and it was worn under mail as well as instead of it.
