reflector

UK/ɹɪˈflɛktə(ɹ)/
nounB2+Rare in speech; mostly a word you read · #12,203 of 15,258leans written

Other forms: reflectors

A reflector is a device that throws light back to make you seen. Rear reflector, pedal reflectors, fit a reflector.

It works by corner-cube geometry: three surfaces at right angles send light straight back the way it came, so the driver's own headlights return to the driver's own eyes. That is why a reflector is useless to anybody approaching from a different angle, and why lights matter too.
