Humiliated means made to feel ashamed in front of everyone. Utterly humiliated, humiliated in public, felt humiliated.
The public element is the point: being embarrassed is private and being humiliated has an audience. It is one of the strongest words for social pain, and research finds it among the most lasting. Note humiliation, humiliate; and humble, which comes from the same Latin word for the ground and means something entirely different — being humbled is chosen and being humiliated is not.
