Other forms: removers
A remover is a liquid that takes make-up off. Nail polish remover, eye make-up remover, oil-based remover.
It works by dissolving: like dissolves like, so an oil-based remover lifts waxy mascara and a water-based one will not. Nail polish remover is mostly acetone, which also dissolves plastics — which is why spilling it on a table is a mistake. Note that a remover is also a firm that moves furniture.
